Cy Coleman Trio - Piano Patterns

There is little we can say which would adequately describe the refreshing music you are about to hear, for this is an exceptional album performed by exceptional talent.
The Cy Coleman Trio is composed of three great young musicians — Cy Coleman, who is 24, John Cresci, who is 25, and Ernie Furtado, who is 22. They play piano, drums, and bass, respectively. They all hold Bachelor of Music degrees in composition. Together, they form a dynamic modern trio who approach an almost symphonic form of jazz.
As a child prodigy, Cy Coleman was featured in concerts at Steinway Hall and Town Hall before he was six years old. Today, while Cy's styling is essentially modern, it still bears the influence of his classical training. The technical skill he acquired through his command of difficult concert executions, together with his thorough knowledge of higher composition, has given him a rare perspective. He is able to visualize his piano as a full orchestra — hence, the multicolored patterns of counterpoint and harmony which come to life at the Coleman keyboard. *(Liner notes)*

This brightly packaged disk, if exposed, should do quite well. Coleman has a sizable following among the smart supper club clientele. His style is best described, perhaps, as modern cocktail jazz-good show tunes played with not-too-far-out improvisation. Interesting, smart and listenable piano fan fodder. *Billboard, June 18, 1955*
